Randolph Hospital has partnered with local doctors and a national management company in proposing a $3 million freestanding outpatient surgery center in Asheboro.
The consortium, called Central Piedmont Surgery Center, filed its application with state regulators last week. The hospital would hold a 68 percent ownership stake; 12 surgeons would combine to own 21 percent; and Kansas-based Nueterra Healthcare, which manages or has developed more than 90 facilities in 28 states, would hold an 11 percent share in the project.
Randolph Hospital and area surgeons for two years have asked state regulators to allot two more operating rooms to the county, citing data that show Randolph only has one OR per 29,471 residents, compared with a state average of one OR per 7,443 residents.
This year's State Medical Facilities Plan included adding two operating rooms for the county. No other providers have applied to compete for the facility.
