Case Study
The community of Great Bend, Kansas, felt the current hospital was meeting neither the community nor physician needs. The physicians wanted more control and efficiency, along with a better environment for both themselves and their patients. As a result, the Surgical and Diagnostic Center of Great Bend, the only specialty hospital in the area, was built to allow physicians and medical professionals to practice medicine with the most current technology and to provide high quality care in a comfortable environment for the community.
Right from the start, everyone was supportive of the project and strived for a successful outcome, from Nueterra, to the physicians, to the community. All parties involved wanted to have a hospital that met the community needs, something that had not previously been accomplished. Nueterra was able to step in and bring management together, incorporating effective practice models and progressive thinking. Nueterra helped provide the vision and direction needed to successfully implement and launch the project. Our proven development solutions helped eliminate obstacles, reduce risk and shorten the timeline of development resources to assist with the complexity of establishing a successful community hospital.
With steady progress, success, and increased revenue, an imaging center was added in 2005, and there are now plans to expand the facility even further. The newest expansion calls for an additional OR, an eight-bed women center including four LDRs and a separate four-bed pediatric unit, new medical surgery wing with 17 beds, a four-bed ICU, an emergency room with five bays, a full service lab with blood bank capabilities, expanded pharmacy, CT, ultrasound and nuclear medicine.
The offering of quality service with effective business practices has proven successful. Case volume has significantly increased each year after opening. Patient satisfaction has been high, reaching a 98 percent rate in 2007. The center was profitable in its first quarter of opening and has continued to increase revenue each quarter since then.
